In an effort to settle the differences that gave rise to the current strike action, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) is scheduled to meet with the federal government for a crucial discussion.
The meeting’s outcome would determine whether the doctors would participate in the planned protest, NARD President Emeka Orji told reporters on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, August 9, The Doctors had planned an nation-wide protest.
“At this time, I am unable to name the federal government officials we will be meeting with. But after the meeting, possibly in the following four to five hours, we will reveal our next course of action, Orji said.
According to Gistlover, the government’s refusal to comply with the demands of its citizens prompted resident doctors to go on an indefinite strike on July 26.
The payment of the 2023 medical residency training fund (MRTF), the immediate release of the one-for-one replacement circular, and an upward review of the consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS) are some of the demands made by the resident physicians.
Others include making good on consequential adjustment arrears, as well as hazard and skipping allowance.
The association scheduled its protest for Wednesday to give the federal government some time to step in, according to the NARD president, who was speaking on Channels Television on Sunday.
“We had options of starting these protests on Monday but we shifted it to give the federal government enough time to intervene,” he said.
