A past video of renowned gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey from 2021 has resurfaced online as discussions intensify over whether gospel artists should charge fees for their ministrations at churches and Christian events.
The debate gained momentum after soul singer Timi Dakolo reacted to a viral video in which Pastor Femi Lazarus criticized gospel artists who demand payment for ministering in churches.
In the resurfaced clip, Nathaniel Bassey, speaking at a Christian gathering, shared his perspective on the matter. He stated that he does not charge a fee when invited to minister, emphasizing that it is a personal decision and consecration that has worked for him.
“When people call me to come and minister they are doing two things, first to come and minister to God and his people. I can’t charge God to minister to him, how much did he charge me for his blood on the cross of calvary. The blood that is the very reason for my ministry. It is a personal consecration and it has worked for me, so why leave what is working, if i share some of my testimony people will be jealous,” he said in the video.
