Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has formed an investigation committee (NBA) to look into allegations of sexual assault made against Prof. Cyril Ndifon.
The organization is also looking into the allegation of attempted bribery of Justice Flora Azinge of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal located in Kano.
The NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), and all of the association’s national officers were present, according to a statement released by the association on Saturday. The National Executive Committee (NEC) made the decision at its most recent monthly meeting.
“We find it pertinent to update you on some actions that have been taken by the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in light of recent events that involve allegations of professional misconduct against some members of the legal profession,” it states.
“The NBA has decided to look into the allegations of sexual assault against the dean of the University of Calabar’s law faculty, Prof. Cyril Ndifo.
“The NBA NEC subsequently empanelled an ad-hoc committee comprising the 1st Vice President of the NBA, Mrs Linda Rose Bala, the Assistant General Secretary of the NBA, Mr Daniel Kip, Chairperson of NBA Women’s Forum and the Chairman of the NBA Calabar Branch, to investigate the allegations against the University Don.”
Additionally, it made mention of the alleged attempt to bribe Justice Flora Azinge of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal located in Kano.
It stated that the NBA had formally asked his lordship to provide the NBA with more information in this regard so that an investigation into this claim could be conducted in a letter dated August 16, 2023.
The National Officers also discussed the improper behavior of some legal professionals.
According to the statement, the NBA has petitioned the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) on behalf of Mr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Ifunanya Excel Grant, a young lawyer of the Aba Branch who is infamously known online as “the baddest lawyer.”.
