Burna Boy, a Nigerian music sensation, has ignited online debate following the first day streaming stats for his current track, Update, on Spotify Nigeria.
The self-proclaimed African Giant, real name Damini Ogulu, released Update as his first release in 2025, before of his highly anticipated album, No Sign of Weakness.
The song’s release was preceded by teasers, including a promotional film and social media profile updates, which raised fan expectations.
However, when music site Album Talks announced on Friday, February 21, that the tune had received 246.8K listens on its first day, comments flooded social media.
While some fans applauded Burna Boy’s recent release, others were surprised by the streaming stats, claiming that an artist of his quality should have had substantially greater numbers.
The argument continues as fans investigate the probable causes of the data, with some blaming changed streaming habits and others speculating on rivalry within the business.
