The U.S. deputy secretary of state for African affairs Molly Phee from August 25 to August 29, 2023 will be visiting Nigeria, Chad, and Ghana
This was revealed in a statement released on Friday by the US Department of State’s spokesman, Matthew Miller.
In order to discuss US support for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and regional leaders’ role in the response to the Niger crisis, Phee will meet with regional heads of state while on her trip.
In Chad, the U.S official will review recent developments with Sudan and Niger, two of its neighbors.
She will bring up the shared goals of upholding Niger’s fought-for democracy and securing President Mohamed Bazoum, his family, and the other members of his unjustly detained government’s immediate release and recovery in all of her interactions.
Senior officials in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Togo were also consulted by Assistant Secretary Phee, who emphasized that the US supported ECOWAS’ stance in support of democracy and constitutional order.
