On Monday, October 21, the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), announced the receipt of the toxicology report and other forensic analyses conducted in the United States concerning the death of singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
During a press conference at the Ministry of Justice in Alausa, Ikeja, Pedro confirmed that the autopsy report is now with the Lagos State Pathologist and the coroner magistrate.
The announcement came as part of his first-year office briefing and ahead of a strategic stakeholders’ meeting. Pedro acknowledged delays in the investigation, attributing them to the time required for thorough forensic analysis.
He noted, “Yes, I agree there has been a delay, and the delay is caused by the time taken for investigation.” The case continues to garner widespread attention, and authorities are focused on ensuring a comprehensive inquiry.
He further explained that comprehensive investigative procedures, including forensic analysis and toxicology, are essential for ensuring that any case brought to court has the necessary evidence to secure a conviction.
“Forensic, analysis, toxicology, all these are part of the investigation. Full-proof investigation that can lead at least to conviction in a case that is presented before the courts,” Pedro said.
The Attorney General also clarified that the toxicology examination had to be conducted in the United States due to the destruction of the Lagos DNA and Forensic Centre during the #EndSARS protests of October 2020.
