Nigeria Needs 20 Years to Tackle Insecurity – Buratai

Nigeria Needs 20 Years to Tackle Insecurity – Buratai.

Lt-General Tukur Buratai (Rtd), the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, had said it would take Nigeria twenty years to tackle Boko Haram, bandits, killer herdsmen and other security challenges.

Gistlover reports that Buratai stated this when he appeared before the Senate for his ambassadorial nomination screening on Thursday.

Buratai appeared before the Senator Adamu Muhammad Bulkachuwa (APC-Bauchi North) led Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs alongside General Abayomi Olonisakin (retd); Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd); Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas (retd); Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar(retd); and Air Vice Marshal Muhammad S. Usman (Rtd).

At his screening, the former Army Chief had said the intelligence capacity of the army was so low, but now it is first class and its cyber command is a top-notch.

On the update of his achievement, Buratai said that they have won the communities to their side, adding that it requires a multi-pronged approach and that military warfare is just one aspect.

He said;

”The military alone cannot solve this. There should be hospitals, schools, roads and government presence in these communities. There are so many ungovernable spaces and until these spaces have government presence, it will not be resolved.”
