Innocent Tino, a Nigerian-American guy, has stirred up controversy online by claiming that emerging Nigerian music sensation Rema owes him for using the term ‘ozeba’ in one of his famous songs.
The song, a standout from Rema’s 11-track sophomore album “HEIS,” dropped on July 11.
Innocent Tino moved to social media to voice his displeasure, claiming that he popularized the term ‘ozeba’ long before Rema used it in his music.
He claims that he started using ‘Ozeba’ on his social media pages about four years ago, and that it has since become a catchphrase among his followers.
While conceding that ‘Ozeba’ is a word from the Benin language that means ‘trouble,’ Tino believes his use of the word brought it into the limelight.
In his words:
“Rema need to pay me. I was the one who started using ‘Ozeba’ as gist on social media.. though a Benin word for ‘trouble’… but I made it popular on my page like 4 years ago till date and now Rema used am blow for song …my old followers will attest to it. …I will say ‘this na better Ozeba.’”
