The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday night at the office of the organization in Abuja.
Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser, was present.
Despite being prohibited from recording the opening, the agenda given to the governors indicated that discussions will center on matters of state and national security.
A review of the National Executive Council’s agenda, a brief on the new Electricity Act, and President Bola Tinubu’s palliative intervention over gasoline subsidies are also on the agenda for discussion.
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governor of Kwara State, presided over the gathering.
Other governors present are Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, and Alex Otti of Abia State.
Following the recent murder of at least 21 military personnel, including senior officers, at Kundu via Zungeru in the Wushishi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State by suspected bandits, security concerns are once again rising in the nation.
After the bandits attacked, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, paid a visit to the troops in Niger State on Wednesday. He urged them to maintain their morale and fight to defend Nigeria and reclaim the territory that terrorists and bandits currently control in some areas of the nation.
