Oside Oluwole, a Nigerian biochemist and auto trader known as Khoded, has been acknowledged by Guinness World Records for completing the longest videogame marathon.
Guinness World Record (GWR) acknowledged this feat on social media.
Oluwole, age 24, set this record by playing a soccer videogame for 75 hours straight, totaling over 500 games played.
He broke the previous record of 50 hours, achieved by Englishman David Whitefoot in 2022.
Oluwole accepted this challenge with the intention of generating money for a local hospital in his hometown of Iejbu-Ode.
GWR recognized Oluwole’s accomplishment, claiming that he broke the record by a large margin.
The record was set in 2010 at 24 hours and then increased to 50 hours after being beaten seven times in 11 years.
Announcing Oluwole’s feat, GWR wrote:
“Before no one in the past has broken this record by such a large margin as Oside has. It was first set in 2010 with a time of 24 hours and gradually increased to 50 hours after being beaten seven times in 11 years.”
In other new, Rhema Ahonsi, a University of Lagos undergraduate, is attempting to set a record for the longest singing marathon with the goal of getting his name entered into the Guinness World Record.
Rhema, 27, is aiming to become the first Nigerian to sing for the longest hour. She is joining a number of other Nigerians who are breaking records, a phenomenon that Guinness has never seen before following Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon record.
Set a GRW for marathon cooking officially registered at 93 hours 11 minutes by the GWR after cooking for a total of 100 hours in May 2023 in Lagos, Chef Baci, who was recently dethroned by Irish chef Alan Fisher, was challenged.
After Hilda’s success, Nigerians unexpectedly took on to the trend, giving rise to celebrities like Chef Damilola Adeparusi and masseuse Joyce Ijeoma, who attempted to break the record for the longest continuous massage by collapsing after more than 50 hours.
