Popular Nigerian singer Jaywon has shared his thoughts on the realities of navigating the country’s music industry, describing it as a space that’s “not for the weak.”
Speaking on the challenges artists face, the Afrobeats star emphasized that criticism is an unavoidable part of the journey. He warned that celebrities who can’t handle scrutiny from industry stakeholders are unlikely to thrive for long.
Jaywon advised fellow artists to develop mental resilience, noting that even global icons like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy aren’t exempt from frequent social media trolling.
“Everyone gets dragged at some point,” he said, urging entertainers not to let negativity push them off social platforms. Instead, he encouraged them to stay active and use the platforms to showcase their work and grow their brand.
On his X handle on Sunday, the singer wrote, “Some of my colleagues call me to chat about the current state of the industry and how I handle all the ranting and disrespect online. My response is always the same: today’s industry is not for the weak.
“Just look at the level of disrespect thrown at artists like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and many others on social media. If you’re not prepared, you won’t last. They will always come for you, and the only real escape is to go offline but we can’t do that. This is our life, our craft, and no matter what, we will keep pushing forward!”
