Nigerian freelancer and Lagos-based NYSC member, Ushie Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, has once again ignited social media discussions—this time, taking a stand against those attempting to silence her through character attacks.

After making waves last week with her outspoken criticism of the government, Raye reappeared in a passionate Instagram video, confronting her detractors head-on. She addressed individuals who, rather than engaging with the economic concerns she highlighted, resorted to personal attacks.

One particular critic accused her of engaging in inappropriate behavior while claiming to be affected by the current administration’s policies. In a bold response, Raye challenged him to substantiate his claims, demanding he name five individuals he alleged she had been involved with. Refusing to back down, she made it clear that she would not be silenced by baseless allegations.

Reaffirming her position with unwavering determination, she criticized the misplaced focus of many Nigerians, arguing that in a time of economic crisis, the attention should be on holding leaders accountable rather than policing her personal life.

Her statements follow a call for disciplinary action from former presidential aide, Pastor Reno Omokri, who cited her outspoken remarks against President Bola Tinubu. Omokri referenced a similar past incident involving Nigerian musician Davido, who in 2018 faced sanctions from the NYSC for abandoning his service obligations. He recalled how the organization went as far as stripping Davido of his uniform and terminating his participation in the program, suggesting a precedent for action against Raye.

Despite the backlash, Raye remains steadfast in her stance, unwilling to be deterred by criticism or attempts to discredit her voice.
