According to the 2024 Henley Passport Index, which is based on the most recent statistics from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Nigerian passport is ranked 95th out of all passports worldwide in terms of the number of destinations its holders can visit without a prior visa.
The index contrasted 199 distinct passports’ visa-free entry to 227 destinations. A score of 1 is generated for that passport if no visa is needed.
The research states that in order to enter 181 countries, holders of Nigerian passports need to obtain a visa.
Compared to its West African neighbors, Ghana, Benin, and Togo, which came in at76,79, and 83, respectively, the Nigerian passport is ranked lower.
South Africa is ranked 53rd in the world because its passport holders are able to visit 108 countries without a visa.
Japan, rated second on the list the previous year, is currently at the top since its passport holders are able to travel to 194 countries without a visa.
Singapore, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain hold the world’s most powerful passports, along with Japan.
