A Nigerian man named Temi Tope Samson recounted how police officers allegedly gave him N1 million right after one of them crashed his car during a contentious highway stop in Ogun State.
While traveling from Lagos to Ondo State, Samson was stopped at a checkpoint in Ogun and accused of not stopping for a superior officer at an earlier checkpoint, which he claimed he missed due to fog.
Even after explaining, the officers allegedly demanded a fine of N500,000 or threatened to take him to their station. On the way to the station, an officer driving his vehicle crashed it.
To settle the matter, the officers reportedly offered him N1 million for repairs. However, Samson said he felt forced to accept the offer and later realized in Ondo State that the crash had harmed his car’s engine.
