NLC Begins Two-Day Warning Strike Today

This is coming after attempts to have a conversation with Simon Lalong, Minister of Labor and Employment, in the late afternoon on Monday, September 4, about the necessity of preventing the two-day warning strike that the Labor Center had already called, were unsuccessful.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which was protesting the government’s decision to end fuel subsidies, claimed that the strike was necessary due to the suffering of Nigerians.

The organized Labor furthered that it would only engage in negotiations with the government if the fuel subsidy was eliminated.

Additionally, after the two-day warning strike, we will take a break and plan our course of action, according to NLC.

The likelihood of economic activity halting due to this strike action is high.

Recall that the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institution Employees and had directed a total shutdown of the financial sector for two days starting from Tuesday, September 5 and the Academic staff Union of Universities has also directed its members to join the ongoing strike.
