The Kano Electricity Distribution Company’s head office, which is located on Post Office Road in the major city, was shut down on Tuesday morning (today), in accordance with the two-day warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Recall that on August 31, 2023, the National Executive Council of the NLC decided to go on a two-day warning strike.
All of the union’s affiliate members were ordered to go on strike from Tuesday, May 5, to Wednesday, May 6, 2023.
The Federal Government’s decision to end fuel subsidies without consulting relevant parties is what the strike is intended to protest.
In addition, it has refused to offer appropriate and practical solutions to mitigate the financial hardship brought on by the removal of the subsidy.
When contacted, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala, confirmed the development and noted that it complies fully with the NLC’s directive.
Comrade Ado Riruwai, vice chairman of the NLC in Kano State, who is leading the enforcement effort, responded by confirming that all state government offices had been closed.
He added that state banks followed the directive as well. Furthermore, Riruwai declared that he would be going to Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to make sure that the NLC’s order prohibiting any aircraft from landing or taking off was fully followed.
