Ahead of the much awaited ruling in a case involving the Federal Government and Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), there is currently a heavy presence of armed Department of State Services (DSS) agents at the Supreme Court building.
The apex court is expected to deliver the important ruling this morning, according to Gistlover
However, the DSS agents surrounded the Court’s grounds on Friday morning in an attempt to maintain strict security. They blocked the Villa gate and the road leading to the Court, preventing litigants and supporters of the self-declared IPOB leader from entering.
Even journalists with official identification and Supreme Court accreditation were denied entry to the court premises, according to the Daily Post.
The operatives were only grudgingly convinced to let the journalists in after being approached by senior Court officials.
But first, security guards at the main door, which an unmarked security car had blocked, had to frisked the journalists extensively before allowing them inside.
The panel led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun is still awaiting word from the court regarding its ruling as of the time this story was filed.
The appeal aims to force the Federal Government to free the imprisoned leader of IPOB. The Supreme Court on October 5 scheduled to rule on the case today
Following the adoption of the parties’ last argument papers, a five-member panel of the supreme court presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun approved the matter for decision.
