Nnamdi Kanu, a Nigerian Biafra political activist, and leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group canvassing for the secession and sovereignty of Eastern Nigeria has alleged that former US President, Barack Obama “interfered” with the 2015 general elections in Nigeria to send former president, Goodluck Jonathan away from Aso Rock, GistLover reports.
Kanu via his routine online broadcast, on Sunday, claimed that the ‘interference’ was in collaboration with Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State.
The self-exiled pro-Biafra leader said that the Chibok schoolgirls’ abductions were a ploy to oust Jonathan from office.
“Obama interfered with the elections in Nigeria,” Kanu said in the broadcast monitored by this reporter.
“Even Jonathan now has come to concede that the whole Chibok girl thing was organized by Obama administration, executed by that midget in Kaduna, El Rufai.”
He added:
“Chibok girls, planned and well-executed to remove Jonathan in power.
“They wanted Muslims to be in power. They wanted Islam in the Zoo, Nigeria.”
US relations with Nigeria soured over failures by the government and military to locate a total of 276 schoolgirls, most of them Christians, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram from the northern town of Chibok in April 2014. The abduction led to international condemnation and a campaign to “Bring Back Our Girls” that reached as far as the White House.
Jonathan, the then-president was angered by the US refusal to sell his government helicopter gunships and retaliated by halting a US military training programme.
Critics of the Muhammadu Buhari administration (currently spending his second term in office) believe Obama supported the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate to power.
While about 104 of the girls are out of the kidnappers’ den, others are still being held.
