Controversial Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, widely recognized as Portable, has unabashedly solicited financial assistance in a recent video following a significant donation made by music producer Don Jazzy to the well-known Nigerian activist Verydarkman (VDM).
It is noteworthy that Verydarkman has recently established a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) charity account aimed at providing aid to those in need. The activist has successfully accumulated over N70 million in this account, contributed by affluent individuals.
In the early hours of Thursday, October 17th, VDM announced that he had received an astonishing N100 million from an anonymous donor, expressing his astonishment upon discovering this substantial amount in his NGO account without prior notification.
Subsequently, he received a message from Don Jazzy, who stated that he made the donation because he supports VDM’s mission and trusts that the funds will be managed transparently.
Following the widespread circulation of this donation news on social media, numerous users and celebrities, including Zlatan Ibile, Portable, and Tiwa Savage, flocked to Don Jazzy’s page to request financial assistance.
In response, Portable, known for his candid demeanor, promptly took to his Instagram story to appeal to the Mavin Records founder for financial support as well.
In a veiled critique of Verydarkman, the leader of ‘Zazuu Nation’ suggested that the activist established the NGO account primarily for personal gain rather than for the benefit of Nigerians.
He referenced a previous interview in which Don Jazzy mentioned using Portable as a source of inspiration for his signed artists, encouraging them to enhance their online visibility in a manner similar to the singer.
Portable asserted that Don Jazzy should generously reward him instead of merely utilizing him as a source of motivation.
“Person wey talk say Na Nigeria he dey fight for, he is fighting for himself. Don Jazzy, Don Jazzy, Don Jazzy, I call you three times, no dey use me motivate your signees, bless me, help me, give me money. I Dmed you on Instagram, you did not reply. Please don’t use me motivate only, help me.”
