The family of Kim Jong-nam has not claimed the body of the murdered half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Malaysian officials revealed today.
Eight days on since the murder at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, it was also revealed authorities were still waiting for dental and medical records from the North Korean embassy in the country.
Malaysia’s health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cause of death had still not been established but there was no evidence of a heart attack.
“The cause of death and identity are still pending,” he said.
Following reports yesterday his son Kim Han Sol was bound for Kuala Lumpur, Dr Abdullah said no next of kin had come forward to date to allow official identification to be completed.
Malaysia has refused a request from the embassy to hand over the remains and wants a member of the family to a provide a DNA sample so his identity can be officially confirmed.
South Korean and U.S. officials have said they believe North Korean agents assassinated Kim Jong Nam, who had been living in the Chinese territory of Macau under Beijing’s protection.
