The Oba handed over the plaque during Rema’s visit to his palace on Thursday, just before Rema’s concert at Ogbe Stadium in Benin City.

On Wednesday, Rema was present with Governor Godwin Obaseki at the groundbreaking ceremony for Edo Arena.

The governor revealed that the 6,000-capacity arena would be named Rema Dome to honor the singer.

ema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, hails from Benin City. He proudly represents Edo State by showcasing its culture and the history of the ancient Benin empire through his music and performances.

His newest song, “Benin Boys,” features another Edo artist, Shallipopi, and serves as a tribute to Benin City.

In the song, Rema noted that he merits a medal from the Oba for his role in promoting the kingdom.
