Nigerian rapper and singer Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, known as Odumodublvck, has shared his journey to fame in the music industry.
In a recent chat on the Afrobeats Podcast, he talked about how afrobeats stars Davido and Wizkid helped him gain recognition.
The rapper disclosed that in the beginning of his mainstream success, Wizkid was the first major star to showcase his music. The rapper said:
“In Nigeria, Wizkid was the first major artiste to post my music. He posted picanto…Then after I dropped ‘Declan Rice’, he posted the song and there’s also a video of him vibing to the song.”
Wizkid’s post attracted a lot of listeners to Odumodublvck’s music, allowing him to rise from obscurity to fame. His song “Declan Rice,” named after the England and Arsenal footballer, became a hit almost immediately.
Odumodublvck mentioned that in the beginning of his career, Davido decided to support him even though he wasn’t obligated to do so, despite being a five-time Grammy nominee. In his words:
“David (Davido) is someone who helped me when he didn’t need to. So there’s no way I will say anything bad about him even if I have the chance to.”
In the interview, the rapper talked about rumors that he was upset for not being included on Wizkid’s recent album ‘Morayo’.
Odumodublvck mentioned that it would be silly to feel angry about not being on another artist’s album, especially someone like Wizkid who has helped him succeed.
In 2023, Odumodublvck achieved great success and became a top figure in the Nigerian music scene, known for creating many hits.
His album ‘EZIOKWU’ was a huge commercial hit, making it one of the best Nigerian hip hop albums of the digital age. He plans to release a new album called ‘Industry Machine’ in 2025.
