The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed assertions made by the controversial artist Habeeb Okikiola, commonly known as Portable, regarding his alleged psychiatric treatment.
The police maintain that the singer is still wanted in connection with an alleged assault on government officials, emphasizing that if he were genuinely hospitalized, the authorities would have been notified.
Gistlover reported that in a video shared on Tuesday, Portable claimed to be a “madman” receiving care at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
He made this declaration while appealing to Nigerians and the Ogun State Government, following the police’s announcement of his wanted status.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, asserted that Portable must present himself for investigation. Odutola stated:
“Portable will come and submit himself. He cannot be in the psychiatric hospital in Aro. Everybody knows he is a wanted person. If he is in any facility, the police must be informed. He is a wanted man.”
The police issued a wanted notice for Portable after an alleged violent altercation with three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office. The officials—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were reportedly assaulted during an enforcement operation at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State.
According to the officials, they initially encountered Portable’s father at Odogwu Bar, who stated that the singer was not present. Shortly thereafter, Portable allegedly arrived armed and, accompanied by nine associates, attacked the unarmed officials.
The officials sustained injuries but managed to escape and report the incident to the Ota Area Command, which subsequently referred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
While nine of Portable’s associates were apprehended, the singer reportedly fled the scene and has been evading capture since.
The police disclosed that several invitations were extended to Portable, urging him to appear at the command’s headquarters; however, he consistently disregarded these requests without securing any legal counsel. Odutola further stated:
“Following his repeated evasion, the Ogun State Police Command has obtained a valid court order declaring him wanted.”
In an Instagram response, Portable asserted that he is being targeted due to his connection with Senator Adeola Solomon, commonly referred to as Yayi, who serves as the representative for Ogun West. He also emphasized his mental health issues, stating that he is under treatment at a psychiatric facility. Portable maintained:
“I fear government. I am a Federal Government liability. I am a madman and take medications regularly. You can confirm from Aro Hospital—I have a patient card. I am not a thief; I help people.”
In reaction, Damilare Oloyede, the Special Assistant on New Media to Senator Adeola, clarified that the senator is not involved in Portable’s legal issues. Oloyede remarked:
“Portable should be responsible for once. Senator Yayi won’t help him in this predicament—it is purely a result of his irresponsibility, lack of decorum, and display of lunacy (as he himself admitted). Name-dropping won’t help him evade justice.”
He underscored that Senator Yayi is a law-abiding public servant who does not condone irresponsible conduct.
