Oladokun Ayomide, a final-year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has been exonerated of charges that he poisoned his girlfriend and another woman.

As previously reported by Gistlover Ayomide was taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command on charges of poisoning Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu and Odumosu Semilore, a second woman.

The police stated that after inviting his girlfriend to his home in the Surulere neighborhood of the Camp neighborhood of the city on Friday, the suspect gave her a poison that was thought to be a mixture of brownie cakes, vodka, and an unidentified toxic chemical.

But in a statement provided to our correspondent on Thursday by Olasunkanmi Olajide, Assistant Director, Media Directorate of Public Relations, FUNAAB, the cakes that Ayomide bought “included contained a high level of alcohol. This led to the unintentional intoxication of the consumers.

“Ayomide had no malicious intent, as confirmed by the medical examination at their institution’s health centre. The affected individuals were discharged from the hospital the following day and even participated in their examinations on November 10, 2023.

“It is crucial to emphasise that all charges against Ayomide, brought forth by the parents and the school of the affected ladies, have been dropped due to the lack of malicious intent,” the school stated.

When contacted on Thursday, the command, through its Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the student had been released on bail following a settlement by the parents of the students.

“He (Ayomide) is entitled to bail. The girl has recovered and she has also been discharged from the hospital. The parents have settled,” she disclosed via a WhatsApp message.
