Olumide Ogunade, also known as ID Cabasa, a well-known music producer and executive of Coded Tunez, shared how Olamide’s departure from his recordbrought tears to his eyes.
During an interview with Adesope Olajide for the Afrobeats Podcast, he recounted the events that led to Olamide’s decision to leave. ID Cabasa mentioned that he first met the YBNL boss when he was just 13 years old, as he visited his studio to record a song with a friend.
Despite his friend not being very talented, everything changed when Olamide grabbed the microphone and delivered 16 bars.
Despite his efforts to persuade Olamide to stay, ID Cabasa ultimately gave his blessings when the “Mayweather” singer insisted on leaving.
It would be recalled that in 2012, Olamide left Coded Tunes and started his own record label, YBNL Nation. Notable artists including Adekunle Gold and Lil Kesh were signed to the label, and its current roster includes Asake and Fireboy DML.
ID Cabasa said;
“Olamide was 13 years old when I met him. He came to my studio with a friend who wanted to feature him on a song. His friend was not good musically. Olamide was quiet and unassuming. I gave him a beat, and he did 16 bars that changed everything. Olamide became more like a son to me.
“When he was about to leave my record label, we sat down to discuss it. It was painful to me. It wasn’t the pain of not wanting him to progress; it was the pain of seeing someone you love leave. I cried.
“I said, ‘Olamide, you should’ve waited o!’ He said, ‘Bros, I want to do something, and I’m sure, by your code, we might not be able to do some of them.’ We didn’t have a fight. I gave him my full blessings.”
