Ondo CJ Set To Swear-In Akeredolu’s Deputy, Aiyedatiwa as Ondo State Governor

Following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, plans are on to formally install Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the state’s next governor of Ondo State.

Aiyedatiwa, who was in his hometown for Christmas holiday when word of the governor’s passing spread, is scheduled to arrive in Akure, the state capital, shortly for the swearing-in, according to information obtained by PUNCH Online.

It was also discovered that, barring a last-minute change in schedule, the swearing-in has been tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m.

The procedure is anticipated to be overseen by Justice Olusegun Odusola, the state chief judge.

Aiyedatiwa was the deputy governor until Wednesday, December 13 when power was formally transferred to him after Akeredolu went on another medical vacation.

While confirming the governor’s passing, the state authorities stated that he battled prostate cancer until passing away in Germany on Wednesday.

The statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju read, “With a heavy heart, the Ondo State Government announces the passing of our beloved Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON.

“Mr. Governor peacefully departed from this world in the early hours of today, Wednesday, December 27, 2023. This tragedy has left behind a profound void in our hearts.

“Governor Akeredolu answered the eternal call while receiving medical treatment in Germany. He succumbed to complications arising from protracted prostate cancer.”
