The Ondo State Police have confirmed that gunmen at Ifon in Ose Local Government Area kidnapped some Christian worshipers who were on their way to a burial ceremony.

Members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igan, Akure, the state capital, are among the kidnapped people.

The worshippers were taken on Friday afternoon, according to SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state’s police spokesperson, who confirmed the abduction in a statement on Saturday.

Last afternoon, the police received information that a church bus bearing the letters CAC had been abandoned near the Elegbeka neighborhood, and there are indications that the people inside may have been kidnapped.

In order to save the victims and apprehend all of the criminals, Odunlami-Omisanya stated that the Police Anti-Kidnapping squad and other tactical teams had been sent to the area.

The worshippers were abducted while en route to a burial ceremony at Elegbeka after Ifon in the Ose council area, according to a family member of one of the abductees who asked to remain anonymous.

The woman claimed, “The vehicle conveying the kidnapped members, who are choir members, was seen abandoned by the roadside.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the constant kidnapping and armed robberies on the route have made driving through Owo-Ifon a nightmare for drivers.
