To address the state’s leadership dilemma, President Bola Tinubu will meet with the aides of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday afternoon.

The meeting, which is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm, will be attended by important parties, including members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, according to sources in the Villa.

The meeting takes place just two days after the Elders and Leaders of Ondo State urged the President to step in immediately to resolve the state’s constitutional crisis and prevent the impending collapse of law and order.

The All Progressives Congress, the ruling party, was also urged by the Elders and Leaders to maintain discipline within their ranks and to give the necessary guidance to those in power.

The elders urged the State House of Assembly to refrain from impeaching the Governor or his Deputy Governor in a letter addressed to the President and signed by the convener, Reuben Fasontanti, and the secretary, Bakkita Bello. “All unelected persons should allow the three arms of government to find a lasting solution to the current crisis,” they had pleaded.

Since the governor, Akeredolu, had been abroad in Germany receiving medical attention, Ondo state has been a hive of political unrest in recent months.

After a three-month medical break, Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in the first week of September, but he had been working out of the capital of Oyo State, Ibadan.

While he is away, Ondo lawmakers have started the impeachment process against his deputy, Aiyedatiwa, on the grounds of serious misbehavior.

In the meantime, Tinubu had given the order for the police to leave the Ondo State House of Assembly’s Akure grounds.
