"Onyeka Onwenu and I started out as broadcasters before moving to music" – Kenny Ogungbe reveals

Music executive Kenny Ogungbe has drawn parallels between his career and that of the late singer Onyeka Onwenu, pointing out that both began as broadcasters before moving into the music industry.

The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN), led by president King Sunny Ade and chairman Orits Wiliki, paid a condolence visit to Onyeka’s family on Tuesday at their home in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Notable attendees included flautist Tee Mac and Mayowa Ayilaran, the director general of MCSN.

Kenny told the bereaved family, “I’m a broadcaster later into music, she was also a broadcaster later into music.

“So we have the same thing in common. The story remains that she is an elegant woman, that’s why they tagged her Elegant Stallion.

“She is also a serious songwriter, former producer, a great mom.”

The 63-year-old producer prayed for the family and expressed his sympathy. “I don’t want to say too much, but I pray that Almighty God gives you the strength to bear this irreparable loss. May her soul continue to rest peacefully in paradise,” he said.

In the late 1990s, Kenny co-founded Kennis Music, which ultimately became Kennis FM.

Onyeka died on July 30 after performing at the 80th birthday party of Stella Okoli, the founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals in Lagos.
