Onyeka Nwelue, a popular Nigerian author, has taken to social media to mourn the death of late musician and journalist Onyeka Onwenu.
In a post on X, the author detailed their conversations before he was involved in an accident that forced him to use a wheelchair for
three months.
Onyeka Nwelue revealed that Onyeka Onwenu was the compere at his 30th birthday celebration, and she advised him not to consume anything at the party because something bad was going to happen.
Aside from sharing the same name, they were both born on January 31. Onyeka Nwelue wrote on X:
“At my 30th birthday, she said to me: ‘Make sure you don’t eat anything here. Something bad is about to happen.’
On the next day, a Tundra rammed into my car and I was confined to a wheelchair for 3 months.”
She was always excited whenever I was visiting her. She knew I had gifts and gossip for her. Excitedly, she will get into the kitchen and dash out barefoot. Strong-willed, Onyeka Onwenu was modest and humble in my view. She treated me with love and dignity.
Onyeka Onwenu said to me: “Never you ever throw a pity party.”
For the past weeks, I have perceived the feral scent of death.
Onyeka Onwenu was the compere at my 30th birthday. We were both born on January 31st. She left her party in Lagos to fly to Abuja to celebrate with me…”
