The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has firmly denied a shocking story that he scammed a woman in the US of her hard earned $180,000.
A well-known blogger went on X and said the respected king got the large amount of money from a woman from Osun named Fagbule in what was thought to be a marriage scam.
Another claim in the voicenote-filled post was that the traditional ruler was close with the victim, who was from Ile-Ife and was trying to set up free medical services for women and children in her city but was tricked.
In a scathing reaction posted on Facebook by the Ooni’s spokesman, Moses Olafare, Ogunwusi called the claims “fake, untrue, and completely unfounded.”
The monarch absolutely denied having any personal ties to Fagbule, saying that she fell for clever con artists pretending to be him.
Further, Ogunwusi told women that their desire to become his wife made them easy targets for scammers and warned them very strongly not to be too hopeful.
The statement reads in part.
“That the news as posted by a Twitter (now X) handle called “99% OPPRESSED” is fake, untrue, and absolutely an unfounded allegation only adopted as a nugatory character assassination tactic aimed at achieving a cheap popularity with a view to drawing huge followers/traffic for avaricious monetization from Twitter (X)”
The Ooni criticized Fagbule for her approach, suggesting that instead of running to social media, she should have taken her grievances to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the proper authorities to handle such serious matters.
