Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has arrived in Owo, Ondo State to commiserate with the victims of the St Francis Catholic Church gunmen attack.
Recall that scores of people were killed on Sunday in Owo after some unknown gunmen stormed the community and began shooting innocent residents who were observing their usual Sunday service.
Osinbajo had in a statement earlier, expressed sadness over the sad development. The All Progressives Congress, APC presidential aspirant in a statement via his Twitter page on Sunday, said despite the attack, Nigerians are united in grief and determined to defeat the cowards who unleash terror on defenceless people.
He, however, condemned the attack and offered prayers to the people of Owo and the families of the deceased.
He wrote: “I am saddened by the senseless massacre of innocent people in Owo.
“My deepest condolences go to the families whose hearts are broken and are grasping for answers.
“We are united in grief and a resolve to defeat the cowards who unleash terror on defenceless people.”
However, hours after the attack, Osinbajo on Monday visited Ondo to express his sympathy to the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu and as well console with families of those who died in the attack while he also visited survivors who are still receiving treatments at the state Federal Medical Center.
Confirming Osinbajo’s presence in Owo on Monday, his Technical Assistant on New Media, Philip Obin wrote on Twitter: “VP Osinbajo arrives scene of yesterday’s attack in Owo.”
In another post, he wrote: “VP Osinbajo speaks from scene of Church attack that happened yesterday in Owo Ondo State, describes tragedy as horrible, unspeakable.”
