Despite an earlier announcement, the Osun State government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, has explained why there has been a delay in providing food palliatives from the federal government to the state’s residents.
According to Gistlover, the federal government last week announced the release of an N180 billion palliative package to states to lessen the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies.
As part of the measures to ease the pain of the subsidy removal, each state is anticipated to receive N5 billion and 180 trucks of rice and maize.
Osun State has not yet received the entire first and second batch of items promised by the Federal Government, according to a statement released on Monday, August 21 by Governor Adeleke.
He pointed out that while the state is still awaiting the final truck carrying 600 bags of rice from the first batch of the palliative, nothing from the second batch has been delivered.
According to the statement made available to newsmen this morning by the Osun Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Hon Kolapo Alimi, the second batch, which is anticipated as soon as possible, includes 14,516 bags of 50kg rice and 3,200MT of maize.
The above report, according to Hon Alimi, is required to bring the general public up to date on the progress of the palliative distribution. He did clarify, however, that a truck with 600 bags is still missing from the initial batch.
The Osun State commissioner went on to say that the state government is completing the distribution template, which he claimed would ensure that the distribution procedure would benefit all facets of society.
Before starting the distribution, the government wants to make sure that everything has been delivered. We pledge to the public that the distribution of food to the populace will be transparent and accountable.
