The governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has been encouraged by the Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), a leading network of citizen stakeholders, to start distributing palliatives as soon as possible to lessen the harsh consequences of the state’s suspension of fuel subsidies.
Prince Chris Azor, the organization’s leader, urged the inclusion of Civil Society Organizations, or CSOs, in the distribution program after a stakeholders focused group meeting on measures to relieve people’ suffering in the face of present existential concerns.
According to Azor, CSOs all throughout the nation have raised grave worries about the situation of the oppressed masses in light of what he called the enormous increase in the cost of goods, transportation, and everyday living expenses.
The group also observed that the palliative packages by the federal and state governments would not be enough to cushion the effects of current hardship faced by Nigerians and implored well meaning individuals and organizations to device other intervention mechanisms that would be far reaching and sustainable
“We observe that there are some level of implementation in the health sector, through antenatal and postnatal free services. We expect the major interventions to commence immediately because the masses are really suffering.
“We are ready to partner with the state government and other stakeholders in monitoring the implementation process in order to ensure inclusivity, transparency and accountability,” Azor said.
