Patience Jonathan, the former First Lady of Nigeria, has firmly stated that she will not be making a return to Aso Rock due to the difficulties she faced while living in the presidential residence.
She spent eight years in the presidential villa from 2007 to 2015, initially as the vice president’s wife and later as the president’s husband.
After the passing of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2010, she took over as the First Lady from Turai Yar’Adua.
During a recent event, she discussed the challenges of residing in Aso Rock and expressed her reluctance to go back, mentioning that she feels rejuvenated since leaving office.
“Because to me, if you call me now for Villa I won’t go there. I won’t go there. Don’t you see how young I am? Because the stress is so much. The stress of Nigeria is so much. If God manages to bring you out of it you should glorify God and thank God for the Lord’s doing because it’s marvellous in His eyes.
“He has taken you there once and you want to go there again? Me I won’t go o. I need peace o. I need your love. I want to share love with you. May God bless us o,” Jonathan said.
Following her tenure in office, Patience garnered a reputation for her active participation in governmental matters, leading to obstacles encountered by her husband’s administration.
Her prominence rose in 2014 when a video of her interrogating officials from the Chibok Secondary School in Borno circulated widely amidst the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls.
Upon stepping down from her position in 2015, Patience transitioned back to a private life following a 16-year period of consecutive authority, commencing from her husband’s role as deputy and subsequently as governor of Bayelsa State.
