The Senior Pastor of Daystar Church, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, has given his views on payment of tithe by Christians. According to the cleric, curses attached to failure to pay tithe have expired and only worked in the Old Testament.
According to Gossipmill, the pastor made this statement in a teaching in his church yesterday. He pointed out, while addressing the congregation, that tithing is a teaching in the old testament and it was mandatory for folks to pay then and there were curses attached to nonpayment of tithe in those days.
He said Christian should not be pressured or forced to pay tithe, adding that not paying tithe does not attract a curse for a Christian anymore.
In his words
“Since we are under a new covenant, giving is a choice. Everyone should decide the percentage they want to pay with the knowledge that you will be blessed based on how you give.”
Remember popular Nigerian OAP, Daddy Freeze has been on the forefront of the soldiers preaching against tithing in the modern church. According to Freeze, it is an old law that has been abolished with the advent of Christianity, but Nigerian pastors choose to work on the ignorance of their members and compel them to pay their tithes.
He opined that Nigerian pastors are only enriching their pockets from the tithe of their followers while most of the church goers languish in poverty. And top of all the pastors that he attacks frequently are Pastor Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church and many others.
The tithing issue has been a wide debate across the country with a lot of people supporting the OAP and some other claiming he is ignorant of the teachings in the bible.
If Pastor Sam Adeyemi’s assertion was true, then maybe a lot of Christians will have a re-think on whether to pay tithe or not. But this is going to be a personal decision of every christian.
