PEPT: Don’t Allow Selfish and Greed Politicians to Put Nigeria into Choas- CAN Tells Nigerians

The Kaduna State branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians to respect the legal system in the sake of the country’s peace and harmony.

The CAN Chairman in Kaduna, Rev John Hayab, declared this in a statement on Wednesday in response to the Presidential victory Petition Court (PEPC) decision upholding President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

Gistlover remembers that the court confirmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the February 25, 2023, presidential election, as the lawful winner on Wednesday.

The panel ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, failed to establish his petition to remove Tinubu from office.

The petition brought by the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was similarly dismissed by the court for lack of substance.

Furthermore, Hayab urged Nigerians to let the rule of law take its course in the overall peace and unity of the country, and not to allow themselves to be exploited to divide the country.

Accepting the tribunal’s decision and allowing the rule of law to take its course, according to the CAN Chairman in Kaduna, will strengthen the court’s image as the common man’s hope.

Hayab also advised opposition candidates and all Nigerians to accept the tribunal’s decision, even if it did not meet their expectations.

He said: “We should, as Nigerians, respect the judicial system for the interest of peace and harmonious coexistence of the country.

“Nigerians must not allow themselves to be used to divide the country, based on political differences, but unite and work with the person the court rules in his favour to lead the affairs of the land for development to thrive in Nigeria.

“Politicians come and go, but the country remains. Therefore, we must think inward and not allow some selfish individuals to put the country into confusion that could lead to chaos that can result in loss of lives and destruction of property, which could set the country backwards, instead of consolidating Nigeria’s progress.”
