Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie reacted to the debate around the handshake he shared with Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.
In a now-viral video, Edochie and Kanayo O Kanayo can be seen arriving at Elizabeth Jack Rich’s 40th birthday celebration and making their way to the Yoruba king’s table to say hello to him.
The actors offered the traditional head of state the popular Igbo backhand handshakes, which the Ooni graciously accepted while beaming.
According to some online users, Pete and Kanayo should have bowed to the Ooni, a first-class monarch, in the Yoruba manner.
Pete Edochie was called out on Twitter by a user who thought this was disrespectful to the queen and who called his behaviour wrong.
Tweep wrote;
“This is worth but I won’t stress it… I let it slide!”.
Coming to Pete Edochie’s defense, Entrepreneur, Sommy Keshi, questioned why a titled Chief like Pete Edochie would bow to the Ooni.
He wrote, “High Chief for a reason, Igbo Kwenu”
Reacting, Pete, took his Instagram story, shared Sommy Keshi’s response to the Twitter user who dragged him.
