Her daughter, Lotlot de Leon, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. While the cause of death was not revealed, Lotlot shared a heartfelt message honoring her late mother.
“With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, celebrated film and television actress, and true National Artist of the Philippines, Nora Aunor,” the statement read. “Funeral arrangements will be announced soon. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and ask for continued prayers during this difficult time.”
Nora Aunor rose to fame in the 1960s as a singer and later transitioned into acting, where she made an indelible mark on Philippine cinema. In 2022, she was awarded the prestigious title of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts—the highest honor bestowed upon artists in the country.
