Controversial reality TV star Josephine Ijeoma Otabor, also known as Phyna, has criticised the admission of Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a model of Nigerian and Mozambican heritage who withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest due to questions about her nationality, to the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 beauty contest.
According to Gistlover, Adetshina, who was invited to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty pageant after being forced to withdraw from the Miss SA pageant despite being a Top 11 Finalist, announced her decision to compete in a video shared by the organisers on Wednesday.
Phyna responded via her X Twitter, claiming Adetshina’s selection might jeopardise the chances of “typical Nigerian queens” in the beauty pageant. She suggested she take some time off pageantry.
She wrote: “Just thinking out loud oh. I’m in support of Chidima o, but this one she now wants to rep us like this…. What will now happen to our own typical Nigerian Queens that have been preparing for it too, Omo I for advise her to leave pageant first or for this year… then go next tym.”
Phyna’s post sparked outrage, with many opposing her viewpoint.
