Nigerian singer Blackface has shared that 2Baba, his old bandmate from the famous group Plantashun Boiz, chose not to work with him on his new album, The Return.
In a recent chat with Television Continental (TVC), the 51-year-old songwriter expressed his desire to reunite the band.
He stated, “I just released the Plantashun Boiz album now called The Return and it has about 18 to 19 tracks. Faze has a feature, but 2Baba is not on the album because he is not ready to be part of it. We already had the time to go to the studio, but they don’t want it. If somebody gives you the impression that he is not ready to do this anymore, do you keep waiting or move ahead? So I moved ahead.”
Blackface showed his need for acknowledgment, particularly when Kenny Ogunde, the CEO of Kennis Music, backed his statements regarding the controversies linked to the African Queen song.
“I am not demanding anything, just my respect. I have put in so much work in this game for the people that are even benefiting from it today, for the young ones that came after. I put in a lot of work; you can’t just take me out,” he added.
For several years, Blackface and 2Baba have been involved in a public conflict. The main issue is Blackface’s claim that he wrote the popular song African Queen, which 2Baba is known for. This feud began in 2015 and has often been reported in the media.
In October 2023, Blackface offered an apology to 2Baba, seeking forgiveness for their past disputes and proposing to reunite Plantashun Boiz in 2024.
In an Instagram post, he wrote:
“To be or not to be? @fazealone @official2baba @blackfacenaija @plantashunboizofficial, why not? My people oya make una talk put mouth for this matter! We are on a mission for world peace and it’s not a small-time thing! Unity is strength and not division. Let’s go champs.”
Even with attempts to make peace, 2Baba not being part of Blackface’s new project indicates that their issues might still be unresolved.
