The Plateau State Police Command has clarified its lack of involvement in the investigation of the alleged hacking incident involving ₦180 million reportedly stolen from the NGO account of social commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In response to claims made by VDM in a video shared on his social media platforms, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, stated that the matter was not reported to the Plateau Police Command and does not fall under their jurisdiction.
DSP Alfred explained:
“The matter is not reported to us. We are not the ones handling the matter because the crime was not committed within our jurisdiction. If he said he is coming to Jos, that does not mean that we are the ones handling the case.
The crime happened in Abuja. If he reported the case at the Force CID or FCT Command level, they would handle it. However, if they need to come to Jos for part of their investigation, they can coordinate with officers here and report back to their base.”
VDM had claimed in a video on Friday, December 26, that hackers had stolen ₦180 million from his NGO’s account, adding that one of the suspects had been apprehended in Jos, Plateau State. He mentioned that he was on his way to Jos with a detective working on the case.
The Plateau Police Command’s statement adds another dimension to the ongoing controversy, raising questions about the jurisdiction and handling of the alleged crime. VDM’s claims continue to generate heated discussions online, with calls for more clarity and accountability.
