Paul Pogba has tested positive for testosterone in a counter-analysis carried out on a second sample
Following a Serie A match against Udinese on August 20, the French international initially tested positive for increased levels of testosterone, a hormone that boosts players’ endurance. He was brought in for testing after spending 90 minutes that day on the bench.
Since then, Pogba has been suspended indefinitely, and the player and club are awaiting the results of the analysis of a second sample.
When a counter-analysis yields positive results, Juventus must now determine how to handle Pogba’s contract because he runs the prospect of receiving a lengthy suspension.
Pogba may receive a suspension of up to four years if proven guilty of doping.
The 30-year-old’s deal with Juventus runs through the 2025 summer season.
Pogba is reportedly paid €7 million (£6 million/$7 million) year, but if he is found guilty of doping violations at a sporting tribunal and given a lengthy suspension, that contract might be nullified.
Since returning to Juventus, Pogba has made just 12 appearances, and injury issues prevented him from playing in the 2022–23 season.
He only participated in six Serie A games for Juventus last season and missed France’s World Cup run last year due to a knee injury.
Pogba has yet to start a game this season but has made two substitute appearances, last playing in the 2-0 win at Empoli.
