Police Fail to Produce Sowore in Court, Stall Bail Application.
The Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore filed bail application has been stalled on Friday after the Police failed to produce the defendants at the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse 2, in Abuja.
The Police on Monday had arraigned the defendants for alleged criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and inciting public disturbance.
On Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello fixed Friday, January 8, 2020, to rule on the defendants’ bail application.
On Friday, however, the police failed to bring Sowore and the other defendants to court.
While speaking to newsmen, counsel to the defendants, Marshal Abubakar said the Police claim to have handed the case file to a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for further prosecution.
He explained that the DIG who was called to produce the defendants claimed to have handed the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution on the instruction of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
Mr Sowore was arrested alongside four protesters during a #CrossOverProtest held on the eve of New Year in Abuja.
The protesters were arraigned before the Wuse Zone 2 court, after spending four days in police detention, on three charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and attempting to incite others.
