Police kill 3 IPOB/ESN members plotting sit-at-home in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command, on Monday, said a combined security force has killed three members of the Eastern Security Network of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, who were planning to enforce illegitimate sit-at-home order in the state

During the operation, which took place in the early hours of Monday, security personnel also found three guns and cutlasses during gunfire between police special squad members and Nigerian army soldiers.

Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesman, stated in a statement, “At around 2:15 a. The IPOB/ESN subversive criminal elements’ hideout in Ezioha Mgbowo in the Awgu Local Government Area was busted by a joint security team made up of Police Operatives of the Enugu State Command, NPF Special Forces, and Troops of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army Enugu on September 18, 2023, while they were preparing to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order in the State. This was done on the basis of credible intelligence.

“Three (3) of the hoodlums were neutralized in the ensuing gunfight, while several others managed to flee with serious gunshot wounds. Three (3) of the hoodlums had opened fire on the joint team when they first saw them.

Ten (10) machetes, three (3) pump-action rifles, and other evidence were found, and a vigorous manhunt is being conducted to find those who have escaped. “.

However, the spokesman cited CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, the state’s commissioner of police, as commending the collaborative team and assuring citizens’ security and safety as they conduct their lawful business in the State.

He clarified that the commissioner had reaffirmed the police’s and other security forces’ oath to continue the assault against violent criminals who operate under any pretext.

The statement read, “CP Kanayo, therefore, enjoins all and sundry to report individuals sighted with gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station, while remaining law-abiding and continuing to provide the Police with actionable security information and intelligence.”.
