Portable, the controversial street musician also known as Habeeb Okikiola, is currently being held in police custody due to his failure to meet the bail conditions for his release.
On Tuesday, gistlover reported that the 30-year-old artist was arrested for allegedly refusing to pay off a debt of N14 million that he had accumulated when purchasing a G-Wagon from a car dealer in Lagos State.
After the car dealer’s attempts to collect the remaining balance proved unsuccessful, they reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the Zazu singer by the investigating officers. When confronted by the police, the singer attempted to escape by jumping over a gate but was eventually apprehended.
As stated by Benjamin Hudenyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, the singer will remain in detention until he is able to provide a reliable surety who can guarantee his appearance in court, thus enabling him to be granted bail.
Hundeyin said: “He has presented no reliable surety yet so he (Portable) is still with us.”
