This exchange emphasizes the president’s awareness and respect for Dr. David’s great accomplishment, which demonstrates Nigerian brilliance and ingenuity on a worldwide scale.
In other news, Fola David, the indefatigable Nigerian doctor and visual artist, has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the biggest drawing by one human.
This creative titan began his Herculean task on July 16, transforming Onikan Stadium into a colorful canvas of imagination and perseverance.
David, from the busy metropolis of Lagos, set out on this six-day drawing marathon with a huge vision: to create a gigantic map of Nigeria that painstakingly showcases the country’s unique fabric of varied cultures.
With each stroke, he sought to portray the soul and spirit of his homeland.
By Friday, David had not only eclipsed the previous record of 629.98 m² (6781.04 ft²), held by India’s Ravi Soni since November 30, 2021, but also shattered it with a magnificent artwork. Soni’s record, set in Rajasthan, suddenly pales in comparison to David’s incredible achievement.
David’s dreams soared even higher when he disclosed his ultimate goal: to create a mind-blowing 1000 square metres of art, stretching the frontiers of what is possible in the realm of visual arts.
Throughout his artistic journey, David was not alone. A cavalcade of famous Nigerians descended to Onikan Stadium to cheer him on, transforming the gathering into a true celebration of support and admiration.
Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate whose presence added political gravitas; Hilda Baci, the celebrated chef and former GWR holder whose culinary fame and charm added an extra sparkle to the proceedings; and Farooq Oreagba, the flamboyant businessman who recently dazzled the crowds at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival.
Adding to the chorus of support, the management of the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), David’s alma mater, made a resounding show of solidarity.
The attempt is expected to end on July 21. David’s record-breaking attempt is however subject to confirmation from the prestigious British reference book.
