Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical spiritual church, has backed the #EndSARS protest currently rocking the country.
He, however, urged the protesters to be law-abiding, peaceful and united against any form of division.
While describing the protests as a warning signal for a primary fundamental disintegration of Nigeria, Primate Ayodele warned that the protest is just a beginning of the process.
The popular clergyman disclosed that the government will not wake up until the country has cracked.
He said: “I stand with #EndSARS protesters. It’s a warning signal, Nigeria is being loosed from its bondage and this is the beginning, it is a primary fundamental disintegration of our country. The government won’t wake until it has cracked
“However, the protesters must be law-abiding and peaceful as they make their demands known.”
Nigerians have taken to the streets to protest extrajudicial killings and brutality by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Following pressure from protesters the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, disbanded SARS and announced the formation of a new unit called Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
He also ordered former operatives of the disbanded SARS to submit themselves for psychological and medical examination at the Force HQ.
Unsatisfied with the IGP’s actions so far Nigerians on social media began another advocacy using #EndSWAT as a replacement for #EndSARS.
The protesters are now calling for the arrest, parade and prosecution of officers of the defunct SARS responsible for harassment and shooting of peaceful protesters.
