Bukky Wright, a seasoned actress, has conveyed her ambivalent feelings regarding the present condition of the Nigerian film industry, highlighting a deficiency in professionalism.
During a recent interview on Channels TV with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Wright expressed her pride in Nollywood but noted a decline from the high standards that once characterized the sector.
She pointed out issues such as delays on set, with some actors arriving late despite pre-established call times.
Reflecting on the past, she recalled an era when training academies were prevalent, offering actors comprehensive education across various aspects of production.
Wright emphasized the importance of self-improvement and passion for achieving success, acknowledging that while some newcomers are eager to enhance their skills, others seem content with their current abilities.
Nonetheless, she praised those who are committed to refining their craft and striving for progress.
She said: “I’m gonna tell you that I’m back, and I’m proud of the industry that I’m meeting? Yeah, vice versa. Professionalism, I’m sorry, I don’t really feel it like we used to. Call time is 8 O’clock and you’ll see people coming in by 12 and you’re wondering what’s going on,well they’re superstars and maybe we’re not.”
