Rainstorm Destroys Farmlands, Houses In Kogi Community

In Iyah Gbedde, Ijumu local government area of Kogi State, heavy rain has destroyed farmlands, homes, and even the community Town Hall.

This was stated in an interview with our reporter by Dr. Emmanuel Jeminiwa, national president of the Iyah Gbede Development Association (IDA).

Farmlands were destroyed by the storm’s rain and wind, according to Jeminiwa, which began on Tuesday night. Damage to homes was also sustained.

Iyah Gbede, he claimed, is an agricultural community where crops like yams and cassava were lost to flooding.

Since they are currently impassable, he claims that the disaster also had an impact on the local roads.

He added that the bridge that ran alongside farmers’ farms had been destroyed, making it difficult for farmers to access their properties, and he said the damage was greater than what the community could bear.

He then pleaded with corporate entities, civic-minded individuals, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and others to come to their aid.
